NGC5139 Omega Centauri Globular

Hi all,

Here's an image I did recently of the popular Omega Centauri globular star cluster NGC 5139 in Centaurus.

Image is a 24-minute exposure (6 x 4 min. sub-frames) @ ISO200.

Image taken with a modified Canon 300D DSLR mounted at prime focus of
a 12" f/5 newtonian telescope with 2" Baader Coma Corrector and
2" UV/IR Rejection filter.

Autoguided on a Losmandy Gemini G-11 equatorial head and custom
Southern Cross observatory pier using a SBIG 402 CCD/guider
at prime focus of a 4.5" f/9 newtonian guidescope.

Sharp as, even zoomed in, and I like the colour. Top work Paul.

Nice result Paul. The centre is resolved very well with little evidence of central stars merging together.
It seems to have just a tad too much blue, weakening the yellows though.
Globs such as Omega and 47 toucani are very popular targets but they are not easy objects to capture well, but you have done it nicely.

Omega is one of those objects that can be viewed and photographed over and over and still look great each time

Nice shot except for the colour balance. NGC 5139 is made of older yellow stars with a smattering of red giants . These colours are visible in a large telescope visually.
