Registax Optimisation Question

Hey everyone,

When using Registax (version 4) I often get annoyed at the length of time it takes for optimisation, because many times I have set the quality rating too low and it therefore wants to run through 2000+ frames. The quality setting can be a bit of trouble for me, sometimes one setting will give you a nice amount of frames, but sometimes it will give you too many (based on the quality of the AVI, but sometimes it can seem a bit random) - so I've skipped wrestling with it and now-days I pretty much always set it fairly low so it will pass through all the frames anyway (this is probably a silly thing to do). So I'm wondering, is there any way to manually cut down the number of frames BEFORE the optimisation step? I just want to go from 2000+ to around the 200 best frames and optimise/stack from there rather than optimise 2000 frames then stack only 200.

G'Day Chris,

This pretty easy to do if I've interpreted your need correctly.

After alignment - but before you press the Limit button - grab the slider at the bottom of the screen and drag it to the number of frames you want to include. This will manually override the quality setting.

My usual processing procedure is to MAP align then drag the slider to about 150 frames before pressing the Limit button. So from there on I'm only working with the best 150 frames!

Yeah, I should think so! Especially if you're MAP aligning!

Another thing you might want to consider doing Chris is to scroll through the images first using the slider at the bottom and find the best overall frame. Do a SAP on that frame using a fairly large alignment box. When that is finished do a MAP using one of the first few frames in the reordered list. The initial SAP will reorder the images from best to worst and you will have better features to align on at the start.

(While it's not directly related to what you are asking for but might improve the quality results of your alignment run).
