SOLD: University Optics Orthoscopic eyepieces

University Optics call their Abbe Orthoscopic eyepieces, “The new gold standard in planetary oculars,” saying:

“These have become the ‘gold standard’ against which all planetary oculars are measured. When an experienced observer wants perfect contrast and superb resolution, he puts away his designer oculars and gets out his University Abbes. Amazingly, when a major publication tested what was purported to be a new planetary ocular, our orthos were not included in the comparison test. Well, I think by now everyone is familiar with the term ‘media bias.’ We have been fighting it for years and years.

“How can a 4-element design give better color fidelity and contrast than say an expensive multi-element design? In optics, often the laws of physics dictate ‘less is better.’ An eight element system must have sixteen precision polished surfaces. All of the elements must be perfectly centered and cemented. Many of you have purchased these and tell me you get that uneasy feeling that even though they cost a small fortune, the image should look better! Our orthos consistently outperform typical Plossl and Monocentric designs.

"University Optics has been selling these exquisite oculars for over 45 years and they just keep getting better and better. These are crafted for us by a small shop in Japan employing a few skilled optical workers. This region in Japan is noted for precision optical components and is known as ‘little Switzerland.’ My long personal relationship with the owner assures that we receive only the best of the best.

“Better high index glass, blackened lens edges, highly defined field stops, multi-coatings and better lens cements complete the picture. The barrels are 1.25" OD, machined from brass, threaded for filters and satin chrome-plated. Field of view: up to 47 degrees depending on focal length.”
