Another first widefield - Nikon D40/18-55ED

My first widefield shot through my Nikon D40. Mounted on a poorly-aligned EQ5 I think it came out OK. I didn't notice the Foxtel dish until afterwards, but I kind of like it

Cheers
Chris

Well done Chris, that's an excellent first attempt! Great to see everyone with shiny new cameras putting them to good use.

Thanks Mike

It's a little artefacted because of the compression required to keep a 1024x768 version of the image small enough to post. Time to get the mount properly aligned and do some more!

Cheers
Chris

It was probably taken around the time of the blackout ving so there was a glitch.

hehe.. "Elllliotttt....phhhhonne hooooome....." LOL!

Yes, it was pretty hazy overhead, but I've also softened it a tiny bit as well because the hi-resolution version looks better as my desktop wallpaper that way I did muck around with the white point threshold, so that also brought out the Milky Way a tad more - and the de-focusing probably softened the Coal Sack a little too much, but what the hey!

Good stuff. I like the framing. Like what the others have said - the dish add an extra dimension, doing you own form of radio astronomy such as decoding the echos from the noisy galaxy NGC5128 at 10.7Ghz.

I also like the little halos around the stars, it gives the images an Akira Fuji feel. Well done!
