Am considering removal of IR filter on Canon350. Company in Melb replace it with Baader UV/IR filter suiatble for astro imaging. Can't afford to go out and buy a heap of filters yet,one step at a time. Will the modification get me good results of nebula such as Flame and Horse head or do I need particular filters to avoid over satuaration of red colour???
Regards
Carl

Thanks Houghy
Been there got qoute. Are you shhoting with moded DSLR ? Are you shooting with any filters? Can I get away with just the baader replacement filter to capture good images as originaly outlined.
Any suggestions much appreciated.
i went the clear glass and added a 2" uv/ir filter on the 2" barrel connection on the scope. look at these images here for some examples of what the 300D could do
Hi Carl,
I have the baader filter in my 300d and it does a good job and I have no other filters. One thing about having the baader filter put in is that with a little tweaking your autofocus will still work which is handy for using your canon lenses, and using CWB in manual mode you can still get nice daytime shots.
Only drwaback is if you want to use the camera for IR work.
cheers
Great shots fellas
Now here's the question. By replacing my IR filter with Baader UV/ir filter am I prevnting myself from working with other filters tha can be added to the scope?
Garyh, Your images are superb. Would the built in Baader interfere with additional filters?
Houghy,Your images pick up amazing detail but seem very strong in red cast, how would this be counteracted or is this infact a more correct appearance of the nebulae you have imaged? If I modified with clear glass what filter/ filters would you suggest
id also recommend the baader filter, auto focus still works and you can use the camera for daylight, for stuff like the flame and horsehead- youll still need to add a LP imaging filter. i went cheap here with orion's skyglow for $59USD- its not the best, for does the job for all practical purposes
Hi Carl, I can`t see why you cannot use other filters like the narrow band filters and LP filters as they all fall into the wavelengths transmitted by the baader uv/ir filter. With multiple filters you might get some reflections and ghosting with very bright stars etc..but with one other filter this shouldn`t happen.
Later on I would be adding some narrowband filters but thats not a priorority at the moment, have to finish my shed first!!
cheers Gary
