Dual core laptop + 2G RAM - $1200 New!

This seems like a bargain.

Asus F5R
Intel dual core 1.6Ghz
512G RAM
80G HDD
15.4" Widescreen (Colourshine - glossy)
126mb ATI video
DVD Burner
Wirleless,Expresscard slot, etc
2 year warranty
Free bag + mouse

Price $1088
Pay an extra $99 to upgrade to 2G RAM
Shipping $25

Total $1212.00

From www.mln.com.au (Vic)

I ordered one. What a cheap upgrade!

Too bad it didn't have Firewire but found Expresscard IEEE1394 for $66.

Usual charge to upgrade from 512G RAM to 1G is $150 at most places.

Strange though - to "upgrade" to XP Pro is $125??

That does look pretty good.
Unfortunately my laptop is a work one, so I'm stuck with it unless I buy my own.

Soooo,..you visited the site Paul .....& 3 posts here...?

I'm glad no-one could find fault with this system nor a better deal...so far.

Has anyone looked at the glossy screens - just like looking at a glossy magazine. Fantastic!

Very convenient for me as I needed one. Blew my budget a little bit though.

Now it's just the DMK to get.....for now.

Actually I didn't find the one you were referring to, I got dragged away looking at some of the others. I did a search for F5R and only came up with the Ram for $99

Gotta get rid of that damn vista though. Wonder how it would go if I formated it and reinstalled XP?

Direct link (I hope) to Asus F5R $1088 + 2G RAM $99 = $1187

http://mln.com.au/product/?itemID=261&typeID=

I spoke to a salesman at Truscott's Hifi and he said it was a bit of a hassle to change a laptop from Vista to XP, especially due to driver installs - hence the $125 fee to change it to XP, I suppose.

I was looking for an XP laptop because I was looking at 1G RAM, but with 2G it should be no problem running anything and (maybe) everything.

Is that your only concern with Vista, that it needs lots of RAM?

I've just had a months experience of trying to run numerous Astronomy oriented programs on Vista and I HATED IT!!! It was an absolute pain.

I'll just ask my IT specialist about switching......

h0ughy!!!!!How easy is it to change back to XP

Actually, while you're here Paul or others,

Can you verify that with this laptop, this is the adapter that I need for the DMK?

http://www.eyo.com.au/prod_I-C-200_p...ssCard_34.html

I had to do some reading about firewire and learnt some basics so I know this is the correct adapter but I want to be sure.

Thanks

It looks like it. You will need a power supply with that to run the DMK. If the laptop had a PCMCIA slot or 6 pin firewire port it would be very hard for me to resist.

How many usb ports does it have? Does it have firewire ports? I can't find too many specs on it.
