Run!

I took our dog Billy down to the oval on the weekend and let him off for a run which he absolutely loves. At the same time I thought I'd practice taking some "sport" program shots...

I took some sport shots the weekend before at Jarita's soccer game and quickly realised there was room for improvement - especially keeping the subject in the middle of the field of view with continuous focus on! So I thougth a bit of practice on Billy before the next soccer game would be in order.

Here's a few of the better ones. I hope to get it a bit sharper in bright sunlight as the shutter speed should drop and the aperture close down to improve depth of field a bit.

I also had another go this arvo, but the light was just too dark. Lots of motion blur at 1/40 sec so Billy looks like he's going really fast when you can make out that it's him!

Thanks Leon. Each facet of photography has it's challenges and little traps to learn. Most of my photography for the last 20 o so year has been mainly landscapes, panoramas, macros, speleo and industrial, so the new camera is giving me a chance to play with other types now. All good fun...

He's a great dog! He's got a really good nature and character. He's the first pet I've really been associated with (he belongs to Lyn technically) in 30 or so years. My last dog was a bull terrier labrador cross, and he was really great. He was my best mate for a lot of my childhood/early teenage years since we lived out of town. Billy is very similar in a lot of his character ways.

Lyn was given Billy for nothing. His previous owners had to get rid of him as they had a fish pond with koi in it... sometimes... after he'd eaten a thousand dollars worth of fish, they decided he had to go! I'm not complaining!
