Cold Weather Gear - ALDI

I have used up my annual astro budget by just purchasing some cold weather snow gear from ALDI.

They had 2 piece snow pants and jacket for $99 and a pair of snow boots for $30. Excellent Gortex fabric with lots of pockets in the pants to hold eyepieces and filters and such. Only 2 pockets in the jacket.

The problem I find with ALDI is that their range of sizes and stock number is very limited. I got the last snow suit from one ALDI store, and the snow boots from another as the first did not have my size.

Excellent value for anyone who can find them. I have been scouring op shops for some time looking for a replacement set of ski pants, but they were all too small (or maybe I am too big).

Thats my problem with most clothing stores. The racks are full of M and L sizes, but the XL's and up are almost always gone.

Dont any retailers ever think to order more of the more popular sizes?

BUgger the bargains, were talking self preservation. Just order a bib and brace and jacket from GTBOwl. They literally roast you so don't move around too much generating body heat, strictly undies and tshirt in these suits. I did see that special advertised two three weeks ago and fronted up in the afternoon. Everything was gone, and I mean everything, there wasn't even a glove to see. that was in all Newcastle Aldi stores. I was mainly looking at the boots. the other stuff wouldn't fit me in a month of Sunday's!!!

Geoff's (GTB) suit sizes are generous. I ordered an L and thought "Hmmmm" I've put on a bit of weight since I last bought cloths, maybe I should have bought the XL". NP the L was a very generous fit, and definately only undies and T shirt.

I apologize in advance for being so dumb, but the Aldi store you are all referring to, is that the Supermarket chain where you normally purchase foodstuff from?

If so, the clothes you are speaking of, what section would that come under, is it easy to spot, available on a gondola end or hidden under the counter, do you need to ask the manager for it, any tips? I don't shop often, well I did once back in the sixties

It's a weird place Tailwag. You find these things mixed in with everything else. A few months ago I bought an electronic fluxgate compass in the North Sydney Aldi - its was between the carrots and the dog food. You sometimes have to ask and they get the things from 'out the back'. They publish their forthcoming 'special buys' here: http://www.aldi.com.au/product_03/index.html
Worth looking every week or so.

I've been scouring the Op shops lately, trying to find a pair of warm boots. But I'll take your tip and hit Aldi for them now. Ta.
I've tossed my old long johns and replaced them with a pair made out of Polar Fleece.
I made them extra long in the leg to keep my ankles warm and extra high in the waist so keep my lower back is covered.
Toasty warm.

A few weeks ago I bought some replacement wheels for inline skates - got four wheels and eight bearings, central "bolts" and a few bits and pieces for $6.99 I think it was. Going to take pride of place on my equatorial platform, when I build it. I was going to just use the bearings, but I'm tempted to use the wheels themselves.

Several months ago bought some really dodgy tripods for a few dollars each, but good enough to stand a webcam or light camera on.

Always worth checking what they have on sale!

Aldi is where I got my electronic fluxgate compass too!
I was in there a few days ago and they didn't have any snow boots, but I'll check again tomorrow while I am in Ballarat again

Thanks for the heads-up.

Jeanette

If you don't mind the drive, the Carseldine store (near Bunnings on the Highway) had a great range of 3 different types of boots in lots of sizes (7-11) when I was there Sunday.
