Relocation...

Finally bought my first home a few months ago . With the property price rise, it had been a difficult time for me. Been busy lately organising furnitures/whitegoods etc as such, haven't been doing any astro stuff. should be moving in 2 weeks time... can't wait woohoo although i don't think i can image the south nor north at the new location hows everyone?

What suburb will you be in, Eric? Much the same light pollution? What are the south and north issues - trees or buildings? Eric

@ Eric, will be in wheelers hill 2 suburbs away from my current res in glen waverley. neighbours tree as well as the roof of my house.

LOL I can relate to the parents thing, they mean well.
It's a pity that you will have restrictive views.
If you had some spare cash, you could setup your observatory through the roof.

Congrats! Not easy to buy a place is it. I hope you manage to get back to the astronomy without much problem. I "moved out" a couple of years ago, at first I managed the astronomy as per normal but recently have been finding the money, astro problems, and time have been against me... so much to do when looking after a house. I do enjoy home ownership though, even if it does result in less astronomy.

Moving is time consuming and a lot of work but you will enjoy once you settle in.

The first thing I would look at if I was to move would be 'what are the views of the sky like?' If they were'nt suitable I wouldn't move there. I would keep looking until I found a place with clear sky views.

But I suppose in cities, options are limited.

I bought my first house a few years ago as a place to retire (I'm 54). It's in the Snowy Mountains. I've just spent the last week down there fixing up a few things for the new tenants.
Living in Sydney I forget just how good the night sky is down there - the the nearest major town is over 100 KMs away.
I'd also forgotten how cold it can get, sub zero on several nights. I'm going to have to toughen up if I'm going to do any serious observing.
