T Cr B outburst

An Astronomer's Telegram (ATel) on 15 Feb 2025; 13:55 UT suggests that the long awaited 9 magnitude outburst of T CrB may occur soon due to broadening of the H alpha lines in the star's spectrum.

The URL with the information is https://www.astronomerstelegram.org/?read=17041 and the prediction was based upon spectra taken on Jan 15 and 29.

The photo below taken at 20250216.78 UT (4:45am EST 17 Feb) shows there is still no outburst. T CrB is still approximately Mv 10.

Image : 20s ISO 800 50mm f5.6. Taken from a fixed tripod with in camera tracking utilising the image stabiliser to track and minimise star motion.

Nonetheless, now that it is reappearing in the morning sky, it may be the time to resume regular monitoring of this star.
