Help please with ASCOM DSLR driver download

I don't visit this forum very often as I don't do any imaging really, but...

I have connected my Canon 550D to my Orion ED80 for the first time and am trying to connect it up to SharpCap 4.1

I have installed the ASCOM Platform 7 Update 2.

I have failed miserably to find an ASCOM driver for my camera.
I have searched and searched with no success at all.

I found ASCOM.DSLR on GitHub but there is no 'Download' button or anything that looks like a download button.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Camera works flawlessly with the Canon EOS Utility.

Hi Chris,

If you can't get it worked out, maybe take a look at Astro Photography Tool which has native support for Canon & Nikon cameras. It was actually born from the developers (Ivo) desire more than 15 years ago to have something decent to control his Canon camera. It just grew from there to become much more.

I used a Canon 600D and Newts when starting AP back in 2016
Only my personal experience but I chose Backyard EOS rather than APT as it was an easier platform to get started with and learn. APT followed 3 years later when I progressed to the ZWO2600MC and gained more experience in the hobby
In my opinion, Backyard EOS is definitely easier to use and navigate than APT as a beginner and is specifically designed and suited to the DSLR user ( beginner to intermediate imager )
Oh and it has most drivers for Canon and Nikon DSLR cameras ( 2004 to 2024 )
Backyard EOS is designed for both DSO imaging and Planetary imaging !!
Now as an intermediate to advanced imager APT is excellent ( my 5th year as a user ) and is comprehensive ( I only use 50% to 60% of its capabilities)

I gave APT a go and everything is working very nicely!
Only tried in daylight so I now know it will work for birding.

And I will research Backyard EOS as well.

has anyone tried to use a canon with theskyx ? Just borrowing a mates D5 mk II, I’d like to try to keep one piece of software

For sharpcap I used either the one mentioned by Bojan or this one

Whichever, it works. Not as smooth as apt etc with DSLRs but you get the nice sharpcap features

OK, APT is the winner!

I'm not wasting any more time on SharpCap and ASCOM.
All now deleted from my PC and my brain!

APT works!

Everything works, APT, Synscan Pro, and Stellarium!

Hi Chris, I have been using BYEOS with canon 600dslr. You can also use platesolving in the advanced version. Use it every imaging session. Works well. I also have Sharpcap but only use it for polar alignment ( it does this very quickly and well)
