Will Nagler EPs make a difference?

Hi All,from the price tag and reviews, the nagler eyepieces must really be something else! Can anyone tell me if using one of these on my ETX125 would be significantly different from the regular Meade ep's that I use currently?Cheers,Paul

Also, can anyone tell me how to get my "Hi All" and "Cheers" on new lines on this posting system. Although I type them in correctly, by the time I view the post, it's all on the same line. Cheers again, Paul

Just pressing the Enter/Return key should force following text to a new line.

Not sure why that's happenign to you guys .... let me test.

I hit <ENTER> twice to terminate the line (ie new line) twice - one fo rthe blank line in between.

I'm doing this in "quick reply" mode to make sure it's functioning ok - it definitely works for me in "Add Reply" format too.

try clicking on "User CP" (Control Panel) near upper left side of page (just under this thead title) then look under the "Setings & Options" part and click on "Edit Options".

Scroll al the way down the page to the pull down selection list "Miscellaneous Options" and select "Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing" (What You See Is What You Get).

Don't forget to click "Save" at bottom of page.

If that doesn't fix it I'm temporarily out of ideas.

Steve

I used to only have Plossls for my viewing, I gather the standard Meade would also be a Plossl, and was relatively happy with the result (about 50 degrees), however at the Ballarat camp a couple of years ago I had a bit of a look through a few wide angle eyepieces and liked the improved field of view. As a result I always use my Pentax (70 degrees) or Stratus (68 degress) eyepieces all the time. If I look through a Plossl now it is like looking through a keyhole. Also if you start looking through shorter focul lengths (say 12mm or shorter) the eye lens gets quite small and very hard to see whilst the wide angles have the same size final lens, about 20mm in diameter, which is very easy to find in the dark, especially for people who are not used to using scopes.

You will also find that a lot of the wide angles also have more eye relief so you don't have to shove your eye right into it to see anything. The Nagler will give you about 82 degrees as I recall, so big you need to "look around". A good wide angle will also give a good sharp image over most of the field, but a cheapie will give you a less than perfect image for a lot of the extra 20 degrees you pick up. The quality in the centre of the field won't be as significant though.

If you want to try out a "good" wide angle, give a Stratus or Hyperion a try, say at the focal length you use most (10-15mm?). They are excellent value (around $200) and are a good place to start before spending a small fortune on a Nagler. You will get a good idea of the difference for youself. Alternatively, if you get a chance to "borrow" one, do so, I think you will like the improvement...I did (and it cost me a small fortune).

Short answer is they will make a difference but before you go out an spend the hard earned go to a couple of viewing nights and try them. It all comes down to personal preference, I don't like them as I prefer the 70 degree range eyepieces, so give them a go and don't just go on reputation.

Try changing your profile options - scroll down the bottom where it has the setting for "Message Editor Interface", and change it to "Standard - Extra Formatting Controls" and see if that helps.

Hi Iceman,

well that worked a treat thanks very much. So if Wolfman is reading, go to 'user CP' at top left of your screen, select 'edit options' and scroll down the bottom to 'Message Editor Interface'. Select the 'Standard Option' rather than the Enhanced option that mine was set to (and probably yours too I guess).

Cheers

Paul
