Every minute counts

To say photographing comet Tsuchinshan has been an enjoyable experience would not be true. This one has been an endurance task, waking up at 4.00am, driving out to a location with a clear easterly view, finding the comet, setting up the gear, etc. All to be done with limited time at hand before dawn washes away the comet in sunlight.

These two were taken on the 27th & 28th, at Kangaroo Ground, north east of Melbourne. The wide view was a stack of 10 x 2 sec exposures at 2000 iso and a foreground at - whatever, I can't remember! Combined and blended in PS. The second is a stack of 3 x 2 seconds at 800 iso with a 200mm lens. Both taken with a Fujifilm XT-100 mirrorless camera on a static tripod.

Wow I love these shots. The colour in the morning sky is a beautiful background to the comet itself. A difficult capture indeed but your perseverance has paid off. Well done!

Cheers David I guess shooting at this time of the morning, even if you don't find the comet, you still end up with a pretty picture!

Thanks Bob, certainly some nice colour in the sky at dawn which adds to the beauty of the comet.

Thanks Leon, I'm hoping I'll get more rewards with this one once it reappears in the west after sunset.

Cheers Derek, I'm finished with the early morning attempts so I'll be waiting for another chance in October.

Thanks Anthony, it's a tough one due to a small window of opportunity to work in.
