Phone plans for us old buggers

Hi Guys, we Alice and I used to travel and found that Telstra had the best coverage around Australia.

However we now do not travel now but still have the Telstra phone and Mobile WIFI plans.

Don't get me wrong we have had no issues with them and are happy with the service, but the price is high for the data we don't use.

Let me explain briefly, I and Alice both have a mobile phone which we own outright however attached to these phones are plans of 80Gigs @49.00 each per month.

I use about 2 gigs a month and Alice about 20Gigs maybe, so we are paying for all this data we don't use monthly, and to top all that off we have in house Broadband that gives us 300 Gigs a month at about $70.00 a month, and we use about 25gigs if we are pushing it.

So as it stands we pay $167.00 monthly for all this data and use about 5% total.

So please some suggestions of maybe a better place or should we go per/paid as we go

I am not really up with all this stuff so I suppose we have just been letting it go because it was working and convenient

Hii Leon, I use an Amaysim data only plan for the mobile phone, $15.00 per month for 18GB plan and the unused data accumulates. Amaysim use the Optus 4G network Cheers Mark

Dodo.. $10 per month, comes with 2GB. I was forced from Optus by their outrageous price increase (IMO)

For the "real" internet I am still with iinet.

I've been using ALDI Mobile for a number of years without issue. They use the Telstra network so coverage is good & plans start from $19 and the rollover of unused data. I have previously used Amaysim, nothing wrong with them either.

So there are options out there. Personally I haven't used anything Telstra for over 25 years.

+1 fir ALDI plan. We use AussieBriadband at home and never come close to the data ceiling (if there is one) but at $79 a month, it's a bit rich.

Am I right in the belief that Amaysim is now Chinese owned? Of course Optus is Singaporian. Who owns Vodafone I don't know. Fir all it's faults, Telstra is at least an Australian company- isn't it?

Hi Leon,

Please note, if you are after full Telstra coverage, then only Boost Mobile offers full access to the Telstra network. The rest of the Telstra resellers offer Telstra Wholesale network access, which is a slightly limited in coverage in rural areas and also in speed.

If you want to test how different networks fare for your location(s) and usage, you can always grab few prepaid monthly sims from different providers and try them.

If you own your phones just do prepaid so you can go from month to month.
No need for a plan. Recharge at the end of month or upgrade or don’t do anything!

Actually, Optus (SingTel) now own Amaysim. Vodafone is part of TPG now, they merged a few years ago. It gets hard to follow who owns who at times...

I've been with Exetel for numerous years with internet and phone. I'm quite happy with the deal I get on my old S8 Samsung I own. I get data which rolls over I hardly use and pay very little. They are also on the Telstra network and quite reliable where I am. Optus tends to not get signal in tooo many regional places of which Lithgow is one of them (parts of town and on the outskirts poor service through Optus locally).
