My partner (Christine) was lucky enough to see some relatively rare and unusual clouds while out on a field trip just the other day.
These are Virga clouds, "Moisture that evaporates as it falls from a cloud into a layer of dry air."
I'm fascinated by clouds and have never noticed these before.
I find it intersting that the moisture falling from the clouds is falling from such small clouds! And the example in my book of clouds shows moisture falling from even smaller clouds! Very interesting.
Shame she didn't have a better camera on hand, the photo quality would have been much nicer with a better camera..
Roger I witnessed some clouds like that last week, forget which day, while doing some work around Greenwood /Perth NE direction. There was one large formation with nearly circular form and a distinct funnel shape, never seen any thing like it almost tornado like very eerie. Unfortunately had no camera except for a phone camera.
Nice pics there Roger.. The interesting thing about these is that the evaporation of the moisture in the descending air causes cooling and this sometimes results in microbursts on the ground.
Any WA people (or anyone else for that matter) interested in the weather and related subjects is welcome to join us on our little 'waweathergroup' forum.. we are a friendly bunch..
nice shots Roger. But I really need to get my eyes checked , at first I thought the thread title said viagra cloud formations and I thought to myself, this should be a good laugh
