solar film

ive been wanting to make a solar filter for my 12" and was wondering what the main differences are between the thousand oaks and baader film

i was going to make an off axis filter rather than full aperture but how big should i actually make it, i also thought of cutting the largest diameter i could from an a4 sheet using that, any ideas?

ive got the same 12 incher gso dob i made my solar filter from baader full aperture just had enough film to do it this site has a great how to make it

One advantage of keeping the apeture small ( it can be as small as a mini dvd, you won't lose any resolution ) is that you can use your excess solar film to make filters for your binoculars.

hmm, i might make an off axis for the 12" and full aperture for my 6"

Some/most front lens covers(tubecover) have an offset hole and you can attach your offset filter to it. Just make sure it is secure.

An advantage of an offset is that it is small so easily & safely stored.
