Dunlop's Globular Clusters

Dunlop's Globular Clusters
I have posted images of Dunlop's 35 Globular Clusters at:
http://picasaweb.google.com/dunlop18...obularClusters

Use the size button on the right to select the image size you want.
You can also run a slideshow if you have an ADSL internet connection.

These 35 Globular Clusters were seen by James Dunlop in 1826 from his backyard in Parramatta near Sydney NSW using a 9" aperture metal mirrored reflector. He was the first to see 23 of these globular clusters.
This table gives information on the discovery of GC.

The images are all the same size, 20'x20', and they are all from the DSS-1 survey. Omega Cen is BIG!

Twelve of these 35 GC were not found by Dunlop.
Halley found Omega Centauri from St Helena Is. in the Atlantic.
Lacaille found 47 Tuc, N4833, M55 and N6397 from Cape Town.
Messier found M54, M62, M69 and M70 from Paris.
William Herschel found N6316 and N6569 from London.
Cacciatore found N6541 from Sicily less than 4 months before Dunlop saw it, N6541 was just above Cacciatore 's horizon.
Dunlop found the rest including N5824 and maybe N6380.
