15th Dec Solar flare action

15th Dec
I was imaging the Sun this morning at the same time a solar flare was occurring near AR3514. This turned out to be the strongest flare so far for this year - an X2.8 flare. I have posted 3 images - this first shows the location of the sunspots including AR 3514, taken at 540 nm wavelength.
The second image at Ha wavelength (656 nm) shows the flare activity (white). The third image shows a nice prominence on the Sun's NE limb.
All images are single exposures with a Canon 550d camera.
Sky conditions were just fair.
Thanks for viewing.

Neat grab, and some fortunate timing. I've never one for solar observing, but I do find the variance in solar activity interesting. Well done.
