Observing spots east of Melbourne

Hi all, I 'm new in here. Have receently moved to Melb & am wanting to know if there are any good dark sky spots close by. I'm east at Mulgrave. I'm hoping to find a place which is within 30mins drive. I know this won't get me away from the glow, but it'll be better than the back yard.

Any info or directions are greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Bryan

Hi Bryan.

Welcome to IIS!

How far away are you from the Mornington Peninsula? I know there's a few IIS regulars that meet up down that way and are part of the MPAS.

Thanks Mike,
I'm about 30mins north of Frankston, which, I suppose is about half way down the peninsula. I think if i was to head down there it would be best to make an overnighter of it. Or go by myself & leave the significant other at home.
Would be interested to meet up with any locals who are in the know....

Cheers, Bryan

Melbourne Area

Hi Bryan,

I just moved to Sandringham, about 30 min west of you. In Mulgrave you are 45 min drive from the Mt. Martha dark sky site of MPAS in Briar's Historic Park(http://www.mpas.websyte.com.au).

Southern and western sky are fairly dark from this site.

then there is the ASV's dark sky site at Heathcote
and Snake Valley club's site west of there, and a few others.

PM me if you like, or perhaps attend the next MPAS general meeting. after you join you can get a quick orientation to the site then you are good to go.

Scott
