8 pin cables for synscan

A while ago I bought a skywatcher EQ5 with GOTO added on, not the HEQ5.

Somewhere along the way between the seller and me, one of the 8 pin din cabeles was mangled. A few of the wires have been broken making this usless.

What to do?

1. Get a set of new cables….which I can’t find…anyone know where I can, Im all ears.
2. Join up the broken wires somehow.
3. Get a soldering wizard to do the job for me…anyone in Melbourne who is good at this please let me know. My local Jaycar person said this type of soldering is ahard thing to do.
4. DIY soldering….ok I have tried and failed this already. Soldering up 8 tiny wires into 8 tiny holes is not my thing.

Photo of damaged cable below.

Thanks for reading.

Hi Matt,

Only place I ever found to get them was from the UK and they are expensive, if I remember about 30 euro each plus the same for shipping. Becomes more expensive when something else goes wrong & you upgrade your mount so never actually use them...this means I actually have a couple available that have never really been used. Message me with an offer if you're interested.

Cheers,
Mark

Matt if you contact Tasco Sales on 02 9938 3244 and talk to Graeme Almond he'll be able to get the cable in if they don't already have it.

Email:
galmond@tasco.com.au

They are the agents for Skywatcher mounts and they recently got me new worm gears for the same mount (at an incredible price at that).

The offer from Mark seems well worth considering, I didn't read his post beyond "available from the UK"
