Another 1st from the north - Veil Nebula

A second target that's not really a good proposition from home that went well from Proston QLD is NGC6992, the (East) Veil Nebula. This was captured over several nights in Ha & O3, mainly using 5 minute subs but also a night of 15 minute subs. Combined as a bi-colour image in ASTAP, I then combined the red & blue channels to synthesis the green.

I was hoping to get a wider view of the full east & west nebulae but sadly the last two nights there I got clouded out.

Gear:
Saxon 102mm triplet @ F5.6 (SvBony 0.8x flattener/reducer)
ASI294MM Pro @ -10°C
Antlia 3nm OIII & Ha filters
SW EQ6-R Pro
Guide scope: 50mm Orion Mini w/ASI120mm-S

Software:
Astro Photography Tool (APT) v4.26
PHD2, EQMOD
Stacked with ASTAP
Processed with PhotoShop

Nice one Mark. The traditional easy way is to put O into booth blue and green but I really like your palette. Perhaps a bit too much contrast, the background could do with a touch of grey, it gives the impression of more depth IMHO.
Very well done.

Mark another really nice image, looks like someone is getting spoilt with those super dark skies!

Very nice Mark - especially considering how far North this target is. I never get bored of looking at this nebula.

That’s a lovely image, I’m a sucker for bi-colour images Perhaps my only feedback is it looks clipped (check the histogram?) and hence the deep contrast.

Something else you might wish to try (if you haven’t already) is a Foraxx HOO palette using the following channel mixing:

R: Ha
G: ((Oiiixa)^-(Oiii*Ha))*Ha + -((Oiii*Ha)^-(Oiii*Ha))*Oiii
B: Oiii

This then puts the Oiii data into both the G and B channels as suggested by John (Oska) below. Alex
