A deep Lagoon

From the Askar rig..lost all my S11 data and patched this together from about two hours of data.

Well done Alex- lovely image
I'm not sure about the circles in the bottom left and top right- perhaps processing/editing to reduce exposure, not sure. If so, you could set some feathering to the circle to make a gentle transition.

Best

Thanks JA.
Yes I see them now
Must have had my burn tool set too hard trying to darken things there...
I hope to get more data tonight so here's hoping.
Thanks for drawing my attention to my mistake.

You're on fire, Alex. The Askar and 2600(?) combo frames M8 very nicely, with a terrific amount of detail all the way to the core. Did you apply an HDR technique of some sort? Alex

Hi Alex

Thanks.

Rig..Askar 130, ZWO 2600 mono, OAG, filters HA and O11,

I stacked both together and used that as L and stacked each separately to combine L Ha and O11 in StarTools. I used HRD but backed off a great deal. The final image I adjusted in Photoshop. I use the dodge and burn tool to bring up features both light and dark spots ....
I tried to get more data (S11) but the Moon played havoc with my guiding so doing a decent/complete image will have to wait a while.

Alex,
6 months ago I evaluated HDR in ST 1.7 and HDR in ST 1.8 on a test object M8 Lagoon and posted my findings on the ST forum. Personally I find HDR ST 1.8 way to aggressive on large structures like M8 , even when backing off quite a bit , HDR ST 1.7 was excellent and gave far more precise control of your processing . I did receive a comment from Ivo about this and gave some advice on HDR 1.8 which did help a little bit. I rarely use HDR now and usually skip it and go straight to Sharpen. Now I only use HDR ST 1.8 on globular clusters and nebula with smallish bright cores like M17 to tame the brightness in the core areas ( not big bright large structured cores like M8 and M16 etc…)
My recent rendition of M8 in Deep Space had no HDR applied just Sharpen and SV Decon. I found skipping HDR produced a better more fine detailed result in the central core region. But I’m saying that not all data sets are the same and don’t let me sway you from using HDR , it does have a use.
I just thought I would share my experiences with HDR

Best always
Martin

Thanks Rick and Ray.

AND Thanks Martin. I thought there was something not right but it sure is great to have you indicate I was not imagining things.

I may get some more data and try again tonight...got RASA, Askar and Eighty ready to go...thanks so much.
