Any Startool users?

Most will know I have trouble with colour but the real truth is I really have little idea how to effectively use StarTools colour features...if anyone can help I would appreciate a run down of what you do in StarTools re colour...I have been learning as much as I can via YouTube etc but there is nothing as good as hearing it from someone you know from here.

I am a real beginner in using StarTools, just haven't had much time with it yet or many images to process,
But i have found that after you have done al the wipe module section, I create a star mask, click on the colour module, keep the current mask, then click on sample, click on mask, clear, invert

This is not a very detailed run through, but just a basic run through.
I tend to get good results this way,
It possibly isn't the correct way to do it, but has worked so far for myself,
Hope it helps a little.

Alex,
As you know I’ve been using Startools exclusively for 5 or 6 years and the Colour module is one that requires some background knowledge particularly when using narrowband data with SHO and HOO blends
I’ve yet to use a Mono camera which will be another learning curve for me , but using the OSC camera with broadband and narrowband data sets in the Colour module I have mastered it
It took me time to get my head around it but eventually produced some good outcomes , where others have just ditched it and gone for Pixinsight
I’m still overseas with no laptop and haven’t got access to some workflow examples ( I may have sent them to you last year ?)

Here’s a link which is long winded but well worth a read to understand the fundamentals

https://www.startools.org/modules/color

When I’m back late July I’ll post some workflows

Cheers
Martin

Hi Martin please rush back

I follow the work flow you provided and it is only colour now that is an issue..I had read the notes you linked earlier ..mmm last week actually..but I re read them again when you posted today and I noticed a small point, probably a major one, that your stars can't be fringed or things go out of wack...even colour blind I knows when things are outta wack ..but this may be the thing that is causing me grief..like sometimes colour is good but others it is terrible..anyways something to look into..maybe flats at last

I need new data to apply all that I have learnt...I have been watching PI tutorials and learning concepts that are helping but for various reasons I think StarTools is underestimated...

I am so close to linking the observatory to my van where in lives my near new fancy desk top .the Ethernet cables are here and I am just waiting on the box and conduit...my feet are stuffed but I will lay it out using my wheel chair if I have to..but I am resting in the hope they will come good at the right time.. so I hope within another week to control stuff from the van... so nearly there..it has been a dream that has not been entirely easy to make happen with one thing and another but by just chipping away and not surrendering to despair I am nearly there...

Anyways how about some more travel stories.

Alex
