Can you describe more about the image?

Was it with the 12" (undriven) dob and the ToUcam?
What were the capture settings?
How many passes did you get?
What sort of stacking/processing did you do?

It's a very small image scale - for a 12" dob I would've expected a bit larger but maybe that is the size at prime focus.. I can't remember - it's been through a 5x powermate for me for as long as I can remember

are you using an IR blocking filter?

I used an undriven 12" dob with toucam. settings; brightness:50% Gama: 100% Saturation: 85% Exposure: 1/100 sec Gain: 0
i didnt use any barlows or filters. i stacked 290/540 frames using Registack, then played with the wavelets to at least get some detail out.

Yeah looks like a white balance problem to me, other than that, fixing the white balance will leave you with a nice iamge.

That's a lovely picture. I'm hoping in the weeks to come to produce something as good as the picture you have made.

When you took the picture do you know what the shutter speed was at the time, the iso rating, the aperture et cetera.,? I'm just asking because I'd like to see if I can get a similar image using my 4 inch newtonian and an slr camera.

And what is this stacking you speak of? Is it a number of photo images of the same object pasted one on top of the other? I ask this question because that is how I intend to resolve images of Jupiter in future. Unless someone can suggest a better way which is cheaper.

thanks ingo and Ving for ur advice. i am yet to have a third attempt due to cloud and busy with schoolwork. but i have resently bought a tele vue 5x powermate off janoskiss (another ISS member) and it should be arriving on mon or tues. i am soo excited to test it out

Uch, i use a Youcam webcam, with a 12" dobsonian. and yeah, stacking is when u take a movie with the webcam and seperate the images and stack them with a program called Registax to enhance the image. i'm not sure about how you'd go about using an slr camera though. go to "projects and articles", and look at some articels under astrophotography, i'm sure you will find what help you need there.
