A Hat with Baubles

I added some luminance data taken from the backyard with a ZWO 294MM on a GSO RC8 to an image of the Sombrero I took back in 2020 with the same scope (and a ZWO 1600MM).

Playing in Aladin - I annotated it with the globular clusters brighter than magnitude 20.5. Amazing to me that we can see globular clusters around other galaxies.

Astrobin link - hovering the mouse over it should show the annotated image.

Fantastic Paul! Just absolutely gorgeous detail and those dust lanes
Must have been some exceptional seeing. Also fascinating about those globs- and I agree it’s just amazing to be able to view them from 30Mly away!!
Well done!!

That's a really good Mehicano hat Paul, Ole'! lovely lane details

I neeearly shot this too, instead of the Antennae galaxies, this last New Moon but in the end because I was looking for a target where there was likely more faint stuff to try and capture in a long exposure, the colliding galaxies got the nod, ah well, next time

Mike

Thanks David. Re seeing ... the best image was about 2.3" FWHM. But there were very few around that mark. Average was much nearer 3".

That's very kind, Martin. I do have a lot more data, which helps with the processing.

Gracias, Mike. Your Antennae pic is stunning. That is on my target list - you have set the standard to aspire to.

Excellent results Paul,
That's the best here at Ice in Space so far this season.
I notice some bright stars are darker in their centers?

cheers
Allan

Thanks Allan. Good catch re stars. It seems there was a decon issue with the 2020 data. When it was upscaled and processed in with the 2023 data the problem became more obvious. I have used just the 2023 data for those stars now (latest astrobin version). Somehow putting up a new version (C) has broken the hover over version being shown (ver B) though

No worries -
it was a minor thing but it's fixed now.
Good work.

cheers

That's a fine image of the Sombrero! I've always wondered if the RC8 was a good scope, your image kinda says it all.

Nice shot Paul. great detail and the globs information is a good addition as it shows how many globs can be seen around the galaxy.

Thanks Paul. It is a good scope once you've gone through the horror of collimation! (And it retains collimation very well)

Thanks Paul. Yeah, a huge number of globs. And that was filtering to only the brighter ones. Plenty of them are beyond the limit of visibility in my image.
