Sneaky Orion

Ya gotta love the ol' faithful EQ6R & EON85 combo. Just plugs away like a champion while I torture myself with other more unruly things

I decided to have a fiddle with PIs HDRComposition and started with Carina but the data didn't need it apparently. So I went for Orion, since that's what the process is for, just learning. I couldn't get a result with the tool, they all looked like it was 8bit :/ surely my fault but I couldn't work it out, this time. Undeterred I applied a range mask to the linear data to isolate the overexposed core and used masked pixelmath to do the composition, so a different learning exercise in the end. GHS did all the heavy lifting. Colour masks. Is it weird to use prime numbers for all the settings?

Nothing weird about the processing there John, you've done a wonderful job, it looks great and not over done at all. Very nice!

Very wonderful indeed. That is the best M42 that I have seen in a long times and I do mean in a long time and I do mean the best M42.

Thanks Gents, you're all far too kind. I was mainly focusing on bringing out IC 427/428, the little blue neb in the middle left.
