Conditions in Sydney last night

I tried out my new scope last night, but was disappointed with the results.

I'm not sure if it was the scope or the conditions.

Can anyone else comment on the conidtions last night?

I had a shot at viewing last night but the seeing was poor thanks to the jetstream that has been parked on top of us for the last few days. It looks like it should be a bit calmer tonight looking at the latest map so give it another go tonight. If things still look as bad then other factors might be the cause (e.g. scope not cool enough, needs collimation etc.).

Cheers,
Greg

I didn't get the scope out last night (too cold!) but I think it looked a lot better than many other nights.

The sky was clear (that's what tempted me to go out) but the upper atmosphere was still turbulent. Jupiter's details would only come into focus every now and then. Still pleasant to look at with lower power. Good excuse to just watch the whole system rather than look for detail. The atmosphere probably settled down later in the evening but it was getting cold, the Blue's had lost so I was ready to call it a night.

Cheers,
Greg
