B86 and NGC6520 in Sagittarius

Hi Guys - Here is a B86 I took last week at Ilford (ASNSW).

It is at full resolution but is only a tiny fraction of the whole frame. Not far from this part of the image I can see and partially resolve the notoriously faint globular, Terzan 9. Focus must have been good for once!

2x10mins RGB with FSQ-106 and STL-11000m.

The second link is the full frame.

WOW!

What an amazing starfield! pinpoint stars, flat across the field.

Excellent image Monte.

Oh my gosh !!!
That's stunning Monte, great work.

I assume you were using the EM200.
If so it looks like it handles the combo beautifully !

Guys ! Thanks for the encouragement.

Yes I used the Em-200 which is a wonderful mount. It was guided by an FS-60c and STV on the back of the FSQ. I used to use the inbuilt guider in the STL but guidestar selection particularly when I used the Ha filter was so frustrating and time consuming I went to piggy back instead.

Here is a full frame version. It has been compressed in PS down to number 3 in the jpg compression so please don't consider it a fair example of FSQ optical performance. The B86 cropped image is however not compressed much.

The file size 1.5Mb and my server doesn't have a real fast upload speed so pleae be patient or go make a cup of Bonox or both.

Great images Monte, so crisp and clear and such a dense star region.

That is superb, Monte!
Even heavily compressed, the stars are still clean!! You have done a marvellous job.

When looking at such a deep image of only a portion of the sky it's easy to understand how there can be 'billions' of stars in our whole Galaxy.

The area is so rich It would be difficult to count the amount of stars in only one square centimetre in your image.

Hey Ken - thanks for the positive feedback. BTW - there is a program that will count stars in an image but I can't remember what it is. Does anyone know?

I think it might be RegiStar.
