Govett's Leap, Blackheath, N.S.W, 12-05-07

Apart from two superb viewing nights on Friday and Saturday, the days were equally as great. Mother's Day traffic on the mountains today is pretty heavy and the day is clouding up. Pics taken from Govett's Leap overlooking the Grose Valley with 350D/Sigma 18-200mm lens.

Thanks Mike, I'm sure your pics would be much better . I mainly took these shots as a friend of mine from the UK who was visiting around the time of the last bush fires didn't get much of a view so I'll send some of the pics to him. It's nice to have grown up kids, especially since my son lives in Blackheath, great for bushwalks and more importantly, clear skies! (not always but ...). Since it is a little under an hours drive up the mountain from our place, my wife and I are planning a fair few more trips, perhaps even retiring there in a few years time. Cheers, Steve.

Thanks for your kind thoughts about the photos folks. My wife loves your shot of the Three Sisters/Mt Solitary Mike, I hadn't thought of stitching my pics together, will have to give it a go as I have the Photostitch program somewhere. Thanks also to Barb and David, your most welcome to call into my place in the Lower Blue Mountains on your next visit up this way. Somebody told me Houghy that the mountains have a blue appearance owing to the eucalyptus oil eminating from the leaves which in turn causes the blue haze, sounds reasonable to me?

Cheers,

Steve

Hello, Steve. Great pictures. It can be beautiful in the upper mountains but remember Blackheath is not nicknamed Bleak Heath without good reason.

Now I don't wish to offend anyone reading this, but I used to visit Katoomba regularly on weekends. Fortunately I was undertaking indoor work on most occasions. It was quite common to leave home in balmy conditions but on arrival at my destination find a gale blowing and the temperature a significant number of degrees C cooler. I detest the wind.

As you noted, weekend traffic can be a right proper pain. Much roadwork has been done over the last few years but there is still a number of bottlenecks. My wife attended a seminar in Katoomba just last weekend. On the Sunday I drove to my nearest railway station to collect her (she was on a 'bus as railway trackwork was underway) and stood around for 45-minutes (in the wind). I gave up and came home. She rang and said she was still stuck in traffic at Lawson. After a quick mental calculation I decided to warm the inner man and made some soup and demolished it. So, another 45-minutes later I revisited the station. Good timing.

Bloody tourists.
