Ol' Luna - Full Moon, Tuesday 7 march, 2023

Apologies, been a while putting this up. Mount issues...

The full moon, as seen from my place on the 7th of March. Single shot.

Modded Canon 60D; Skywatcher EQ3-2 mount; Skywatcher 120/600 refractor; Baader moon filter. 1/80s exposure, processed in Photoshop.

The 120/600 suffers a bit of chromatic aberration when viewing subjects like the full moon, tidied up in Photoshop.

Comments, critiques, thoughts invited. Still figuring out the imaging side of things.

Nice image, but I'd dump the filter and just use a faster shutter speed and/or lower ISO. Capture 20-30 full sized frames in quick succession and stack the images in AutoStakkert, then you'll be able to apply some sharpening and contrast enhancement in Registax/Photoshop/Gimp etc.

That's the sort of feedback I'm after. Much appreciated!

No worries - I'd also use the Mak if you are worried about CA.

Nice work Warren. Yep, what Andrew said. Aim for the fastest shutter speed you can and keep a close eye on the histogram cause it’s really easy to overexpose the brighter parts. Can you record AVIs with a fast frame rate with that camera?

Dave - thanks indeed! I'll get there. I don't know about AVI's on that camera, I'll have to check.

Cheers!

The stills will give you a better result than a movie - more pixels, higher resolution, less compression.

Here's what I was able to get stacking and processing 16/20 full size jpgs, C9.25" SCT, f/6.3 reducer, Canon 700D. https://www.cloudynights.com/uploads...45_1013030.png
