SDM006 20" F/5 Goto Dobsonian

SDM006 needs a new home!

http://www.sdmtelescopes.com.au/scop.../sdm006-20-f5/

I’m heading off to the coast to retire and my new lifestyle and more to the point, significant downsizing, means with heavy heart, I really can’t fit her in.

This is one of Peters very first and built with absolute precision and oozes quality. It comes with a rather special 20” F5 mirror which is an absolutely top shelf performer, resolving doubles to less that half an arc second on a good night (yes, it can be done!) and splitting Sirius with consummate ease. I’ve added a 3.5” Antares optics 1/30 wave secondary to complete the deal.

Full goto with servocat, now driven by Nexus DSC, with retrofitted Feathertouch 10-1 focuser and very uniquely, has a pole system designed by myself which allows the telescope to be assembled in astrophotography mode which allows for all DSLR’s and astro cameras to easily reach focus. The system also allows Binoviewers to be used without the need for a magnifying OCS for outstanding comfort on the moon and planets.

Finishing the package is my custom build observing ladder which is a must for any object over 30 degrees!

You can expect to pay over $30k for a new one of these, So I’ll say half price (the cost of the optics alone) at $15,000.

I also have a case of very fine accessories too, but they will be sold subsequently.

Could you add a picture or 2 of the telescope packed up with an idea of the dimensions. How long does it take to set-up and pack down?

Here's a recent photo all packed up in a trout fishing lodge at 1400m and with stunning sky

These dobs are designed from the beginning to be portable and are built with custom carry cases for all the parts to go in. They can be put up easily in 15 mins, a bit longer if you are setting up with ground sheets etc for a prolonged stay. Heres a video I host of similar though slightly smaller on being readied for a night under the stars.
