IC 2944 Running Chicken Reprocess in Startools

Always looking for subtle improvements to my images
A reprocess was prompted by Fred who kindly used my image to create a Hubble Palette type rendition using PS, which although has little scientific value , it certainly turned my head and added some Wow factor.
Jumped into Startools again and used the Super Structure module with a Star Mask ( brightness tool ) which did accentuate the main structures in the image. I also pushed up the light and dark saturation and main colour saturation too.
Probably a little bit too aggressive but it certainly gave the image a bit more Zing than the previous images

Synthetic Luminance version
SHO version ( golden )
HOO version ( red )

Fred’s PS version attached too

Comments welcome

Thanks

I didnt have a PS "workflow" as such, all i did in PS was separate the stars, curve it a bit, boost saturation, put the stars back in and that was it. I didnt change the mapping at all.
Just for fun I did the same thing in startools (converted your jpeg to tiff 1st), its the 1st time ive actually tried a colour pic in Startools!.
To my surprise, I got exactly the same effect just using the contrast and colour modules !. And with more control with the astro specific tools too.
I didnt do it this time, but you can seperate the stars out in ST and put them in later too of course, as you know.
It all takes a bit longer in ST than PS (useing Starxterminator) but same result.
In the end, the only difference with your processing is you are not removing stars 1st and far less aggressive with curves and saturation (and a tiny bit of colour tweaking), which is a subjective thing.

Thanks Trevor

Mike,
Andy Warhol ……Hmm….
I better make sure Ivo doesn’t see this , Pop Art in AP is not exactly his cuppa tea

Fred,
No worries about PS
I have used Heal in ST to remove stars but generally don’t utilise that feature in my processing

Cheers

Ah yes
My wife and I toured the US in 1984 just after the LA Olympics and saw a lot of his work ( copies ) plastered everywhere on bill boards , shops , newspaper dispensers and the like
I was thinking along the path of just Pop Art , not the repetitive nature of his art works

Cheers
