Help with OAG (ZWO) and filter wheel..on GSO 8 inch.
I am setting up my GSO 8 inch Newtonian with a ZWO OAG and ZWO seven spot filter wheel...I seem to have lost my Coma Corrector and have ordered another today..a Badder which I went for rather than an more expensive one recommended because this scope may be somewhat temporary in that I am interested in something else which is currently unavailable...truth is I am not sure...but it just seems like too much stuff to hang off my Newt...but I just dont know...cameras..small mini guide cam and a ZWO 2600 MM main camera.
Anyways should I wait for the Coma Corrector before trying to put this altogether? One would hope I can add it on later.
I still have to wash the primary and re collminate, make a tool for that, so things are a bit all over the place...but it seem to me one must bolt the OAG to the filter wheel...can anyone confirm at least that part...actually any guidance links etc gratefully accepted.
.I just watched a YouTube video and the guy, like so many is doing it for the first time thinks why not do a video as just opening the box makes him an expert...I really hate that...I may as well do a video saying I have no idea but listen to me ... And he was a youngster around 45 years...kids!
So if you have been around the block any input gratefully received.
The GSO 8” Newt will be fine with ZWO 2600MM , Baader CC , filter wheel and OAG , you will just have to the slide the OTA back towards the primary to balance Dec
See photos of my 8” ( a year or so ago down the coast ) now upgraded to 10”
I’m taking the 8” back to Sydney and retrofitting with another Carbon fibre tube ( the 6” is temporarily being retired )
My TS Optics GPU coma corrector is a huge thing ( lead weight ) I reckon it would weigh the same as a filter wheel , so my 2600MC , CC plus guide scope and camera is probably heavier than your 2600MM , Filter wheel , mini guide camera and OAG !!
I’ve used a guide scope for years on my 8” newt ( 1000mm fl ) and it guides beautifully using the 60mm guide scope and ZWO290MM , an OAG scares the crap out of me , I’ve even got the same guide scope on my big 10” Newt and she guides beautifully ( focal length 1280mm )
The weight shouldn’t be an issue , just take time balance Dec then Ra and good to go
Sorry can’t help you with an OAG ….. I went guide scope and no issues at all , OAG not for me
Which filter wheel and OAG have you got Alex? The ones like I have pictured here? Specifically the EFW with the holes in the cover (The right hand FW) to suit the 2600?
If you have the parts pictured then I assume that the filter wheel is already on the camera? It is then just a case of using four screws (Which should be provided) to attach the OAG to the front of the filter wheel. If you have attached the filter wheel on the front of the tilt plate, I would remove it all, then put the filter wheel straight on the camera, the OAG on the filter wheel and then the tilt plate on the front of the OAG. It should end up looking like mine does (Last pic) and you won't have any more gear hanging off your Newt than me.
You could set it up without the coma corrector to start with but the results will suffer until you have it. How much I can't say as I have never used mine without.
Heavy crop (and/or BlurXterminator ) will help a lot if you can't wait but the clouds don't look like they're cooperating for the next week or so anyway.

Thanks Paul..you have said a few things that have helped greatly...everything appears to be the same..everything is separate and all new stuff..camera, filter wheel, OAG, Asiar, EAF Mount and of course the pier... only the scope is not new for this exercise.
I was going from focuser out but your way I will try...I guess I need to pull some stuff apart to fit the bolts..but I am talking from memory as it is all away from me in the observatory...And it is raining and my mower has no roof so later I will look...
Another thing I think I was probably too tired and casual...it seems like one needs to give it some good attention ...And I think I will assemble it on my bed so those little bits don't disappear down the many holes in the floor...I learnt that the hard way.
I really appreciate you helping me ..something resonates with the way you put it...thank you.

Thanks for your support Martin it is most welcome.
I never thought of OAG but then I did. It all started thinking longer focal lengths...And to be honest I get confused and do some silly things sometimes...perhaps this is one of those times...

Thank you.
I am pretty sure I have all of that...one picture is worth a thousand words but not if you are plain stupid...
I ordered a cheaper Coma corrector as I am afraid I may find the one that is currently missing..by ordering a new one the missing one will now appear.
But somehow the one I selected sounded good which means their copy writer has got me.
I have an OAG and Baader CC with an 8 inch newt and filter wheel and it works fine with or without the CC.
The stars shapes are better with the CC but only if the correct distance to the camera can be maintained .
To assist in that I have the adapter from Baader that screws directly in to the SW focuser after the CC is screwed into that from the back to provide a male T2 to the OAG /filter wheel . That saves thick adapters where you may not achieve focus with too much distance and also gives a threaded connection to the OAG/ filter wheel which I like.
I also use the integral OAG filter wheel but just this week I will be introducing a thin OAG instead with my other zwo wheel and I think that I will still have the correct spacing from the CC to the camera and plenty of overhead for focussing.
Give it a whirl either way but check your focus in the daytime for both cameras OAG adjustment first .
PS. The OAG is on the telescope side of the filter wheel.

Which type is the corrector that is missing? I have the Televue Paracorr and it is a good piece of gear.
I think you are on the money with assembling it somewhere that will capture any dropped parts, the screws are small and some of them are black.
I have misplaced or lost a Coma corrector which I can not recall any details...it was just something from Bintel and as far as I knew worked OK...but strangley I can't find it or the tilt plate it was attached to...as I have said by ordering a new one the missing one will turn up...that's how things work...
I have ordered a Badder Coma Corrector about $280 and that will be here according to Australia Post Wednesday ( recent info).

Thanks Ray.
I figured where the OAG goes but it is nice to hear something that tells me that I was right.
The Baader Coma Corrector I am informed will be here Wednesday.
Your comment re real fitting to focuser is handy..I had a bit that slipped in but by my eye is was saying too far out...And security..nil.....sound as if I was right again...And I did not like that even if it worked..there would have been some safety string in the mix for sure... I will work out what I need when the corrector is here and see what I have or order the correct bit.
And I can't be too bad as I knew to work out focus in the day time...I read that someplace but after all the mucking about with the RASA...well I won't go over that drama.....I have a special tree you see...mmm not sure if the new spot and pier will get that tree..no worries I have a couple more.
Thanks I won't bother with the slide in thing.you have confirmed what I was worried about.
Alex
If I were to buy a new CC instead of the second hand Baader I would get the Rowe Corrector, now it is available in Aus, simply because it has 90mm of focal distance and has some pretty good reviews. Fussing about with tight focal distance is such a pain .

Sorry Ray I have given you the idea I am getting a second hand corrector...I am buying a new one .But the fact is the one I have ordered and on its way is the one you recommended....so that shows how I respect your opinion..you recommend it and I order it a couple of hours earlier you can't get a faster response than that.
OK the Coma Corrector is here...now I can have it on or the camera on but not both it seems as I need some more bits...who would have thought that?...
I am assembling it at the main house and dont have access to all my bits so I hope to find something when I get back...
I was in a rush to leave earlier and I looked at how to connect the Coma Corrector to the focuser and it seems there is no thread on the focuser unless something will screw off...anyways I will look but it will be annoying if no thread...If no thread I will drill some holes and add screws using my new tsp and die set as there is no way I am hanging all that expensive gear on a little screw that usually holds in an eye piece....so a little closer.
Alex, it looks like there is an M42 male thread on the camera side? If it has that and you have moved the 2600's tilt plate from the front of the camera to the front of the OAG you should be able to simply screw it on there. Hard to say about your scope connection without seeing what you have.
I knew it would happen...and on the actual day the new Coma Corrector arrived the one that was missing (together with the tilt corrector that I was sure attracted to it) turned up...along with a pile of stuff I did not even realise was missing..the pole master camera long forgotten after Asiairs took over.
In the process of tidying up I dedicated a box to important stuff and put it away....but its like xmas all these things I forgot I had...have I found the necessary connections to complete the set up but I dont know yet however I have a few bits ...but the old coma corrector looks pretty ordinary so still happy getting the new one. Plus I looked at the set up on the 115 mm which will help ordering something if all else fails.
There is no thread on the focuser other than at the other end ( internal) and that provides hope as I may be able to turn the tube around and cut off the bit I dont like...lucky I bought new disks for the angle grinder.
Alex
I did not fit the filters as given I will be playing around I will leave them to the last so as to minimise dirt etc.

My point about the adapter from Baader is that it screws into the Newtonian inner thread. No need for cutting things. The skywatcher may have a different thread than the GSO but I am sure Baader would make an adapter for the GSO newt thread to Rowe connector whatever that is so the corrector can be fitted with a thread to the foscuser. Otherwise why not just try the 2 inch eye piece clamp for now?
