Beautiful night on the South Coast NSW

A rare clear moonless summer night on the South Coast with pretty good seeing conditions
Although humidity was up around 85 to 90% and nearly zero wind, there was almost no dew or sea fog.
Even the mozzies were quiet
Powered up my Dome and imaged Carina from 9.30pm to 2.00am , guiding was super smooth on the EQ8-R
I was contemplating wheeling out the 12” Goto dob from the garage around midnight for some observing but too tired, had a big day

A most enjoyable night with the band of the Milky Way spread across the night sky

I’m extremely fortunate to have a Bortle 3 imaging site ( retirement retreat ) on the south coast away from heavy light polluted Sydney with neighbours flood lights blasting your backyard. It’s somewhere where you can really relax , take it all in and enjoy our hobby to the max

Glad to hear you had a good night. Sydney was a mixed bag- a bit of heat haze lingering after sunset and then very nice conditions up till about midnight - I did a final view of Jupiter and Mars for the season and then a couple of deep sky targets with the c14. Sky very stable but in the middle of a concrete jungle there’s so many heat convection currents to avoid. Huge band of cloud moved through after midnight. I persevered for a while but then packed up about 1 only to see it clear up and looked stunning after that but didn’t have it in me to set up again…

Wasn't it just beautiful.

I decided to go camp up in the mountains. Took all my gear.
Didn't take a single shot. Everything that could go wrong went wrong, and finally as the dew started to form (you're right, humidity was very high), I noticed that my dew heater wasn't working.

Final nail in the coffin.

That said, it was still a beautiful night, and we took the kids up and had a nice time.

Was a good night, but you're right about the humidity - my sensor was showing 99% until well after 1am - I didn't actually get started imaging until after midnight, had a busy evening. Got some dew, but not much and it didn't get misty until sunrise was approaching. Must have been the night for good guiding, had some of the best I've seen in some time. Managed to get a few hours Ha on the Skull & Crossbones nebula and with a quick check the data seems good. Just appreciative to get at least one night occasionally, not looking good for the near future again.
