A fantastic sweeping panorama.

What is that spherical object bottom left? It looks like a Supernova.

Greg.

I have not run an identifier on the field. It is next to a number of bright Sharpless objects. The bright nebula above it is Sharpless 284. There are numerous SNR's and planetary nebs in this area.

Thank you! This is a small part of a 1000 tile mosaic along the southern galactic equator that I have been working on for years. With equipment failures addressed, and somewhat improving weather, the work has finally started again.

.... 1,000 tile mosaic?!?!?!

Hats off to you, John. This looks like a fantastic project. Can't wait to see more progress on it. Any high-res image available to surf?

Awesome John, you're doing the amateur astronomy community a huge favour here, revealing so many opportunities for imaging. Fantastic stuff.

Thank you! This "thumbnail" represents the current scale of the project. Each tile shot at the native focal length of the FSQ with the Proline 16803. Each individual tile could be offered at full resolution on request. The full image when completed will most likely tax web presentation at 100% resolution.

Cheers

Thank you Andy! The data is quite extradorinary in detail. This is a starless example around the Cone nebula complex at high resolution.

cheers,

This is amazing. So richly detailed and that thumbnail view indicating the scale of the project would be wonderful to work your way slowly through somehow. Are you planning on making it available as a resource somehow?

That’s an extraordinary project and the results so far are amazing. I don’t think any computer screen will be able to showcase it well. I’m imagining this as a high-res 6x3m wallpaper for the man cave in its full glory!

I think there are some websites out there that have incredibly high-res images on display but when zoomed out, offer lower resolution data. It's only as you zoom in that the extra resolution is given.

I'm blown away with what you've done so far.

Wonderful stuff John.

I've admired your work for many years now.

An H-alpha maestro by any measure!

Are you operating remotely from Coona? How do you find the service there?
(I think I may have to do something similar soon...skies here are increasingly rubbish)

Hello Peter,

Thank you!

I am operating from a friend's property in Coonabarabran. For quite some time the Sat connection was sketchey, with loss of connection a major problem. This has stabilized. The commercial remote operations in Oz are all good choices for security and stability of operation. I do like what Martin Pugh has put together. The biggest issue for me however has been climate change. The La Nina condition has generally created cloud cover a high percentage of the time.
