Gympie Location Suggestions?

Hi all. Heading up to the outskirts of Gympie to visit relatives for a few weeks next month & just wondering if anyone knew any good sites with easy access up that way. Who would want to spend their whole holiday with the relatives...

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Due to the light pollution dome around Gympie you may need to travel just a little out into the country to find very dark sky, 2 areas I have not visited yet but will do so soon look promising for dark sky and good camping, check out the links to google maps and photos of the areas.

Glastonbury Creek Camping Area
Bortle Class 2 dark sky

Teebar Sports & Recreation Grounds
Bortle Class 1 dark sky

Thanks for those Wayne, both look good. Will be up there for a few weeks so can probably get to both those. Was looking at heading west or north-west. I wish the relo's hadn't had to move - they were in Kilkivan, 50km west of Gympie.

I’d reckon you could waste a few cloudy afternoons hunting for a good spot west/NW of Gympie. You prolly wouldn’t have to go too far, as the hills to the west of the “city” should shield you somewhat from the light pollution.

The trickiest part is getting rid of the clouds…
