Aurora Australis

We recently relocated to Southern Tasmania and I've been hoping to catch the Aurora. I received the aurora watch notification yesterday afternoon and with the clear weather I decided to break out the gear. This is one image from around midnight from our front lawn. It took me a while to remember how to use the Camera in this mode but I'm quite pleased with the result.

Thanks Joe. That's my first view of the Southern lights. Hope to see it a lot more going forward.

...and envious applause from this corner. Damn fine effort that, I've never seen the Aurora Australis, but it's on the "bucket list". Bravo!

Thanks Warren. The BOM SWS was a pretty useful tool for Aurora prediction. Worth checking the site out.

That’s a big move Peter but we’ll worth it.A local from my area recently relocated to Cygnet. They were after the four seasons and a slower pace .

Cheers Derek. Definitely happy with the move decision and not missing the Brisbane weather or traffic.

Aurora Australis

Hi Peter, Interesting to see that you have moved to Tassie. I moved to Toowoomba some 8 years ago now, and I was checking the Weather Blog just a few minutes ago, to see what rain we may have coming our way, and I saw this:-

Look at post number 36,772, and you may possibly have seen the Meteor that is shown? It would have been a good one to catch.

All the Best for the New Year.

Hi Mike. Nice to hear from you in such a long time. The move to Tassie has been a number of years in the making and we are very happy for it to be finally done. Still unpacking boxes and getting into the groove. I did spot that meteroid during the aurora however I was still messing around with camera settings so no image unfortunately.

Hi Rob. New place is exceeding expectations. We keep having to remind ourselves we are not on holiday. Haven't set up any telescope gear yet as I want to get a feel for how many clear nights to expect.
