Roll off roof rail

How is this done I need roughly 4.4 meters, for the rails now I''m thinking garage door track and rollers.

Do you use I length of timber to support the rail on each side or two joined for the roof rail, the problem being finding a length of timber that long that is straight.

Some tips would be helpful

Trev,
I used two beams joined and supported by mid span post.
Don’t be too concerned about the space to secure the rails but do pay attention to keeping both sides as parallel as possible. This makes it all come together without any haste. I used open angled gal steel rails which allows for the rollers to shuffle around without jamming up. Also the seasons will cause movement of using timber but again as long as you allow for enough tolerance it will work fine.
I allowed for 8mm sideways movement in both rails and it works perfectly.
Cheers
Anthony

Trev,
I've attached some images here to hopefully give you some ideas of the system I have. Basically its a skillion roof structure bolted to brass rollers that sit within a 55mmx55mm steel angle tracks supported by a 100x100mm cypress post horizontally on the wall frame and posts. It tracks along well by rope and pulley and has adequate sideways tolerance to allow for the temperature changes throughout the seasons. It's old school but that's fine for me.
Cheers.
Anthony
