Posidonius, Messier A&B and Jupiter - Mewlon 180 & DMK

Hello,

Last night I took the opportunity to re-acquaint myself with the DMK21AF04.AS and Mewlon 180 whilst eyeballing the Moon/Antares/M4 conjunction. Gee, it doesn’t take long to become rusty and get out of practice!

The Moon was almost full so I have exaggerated the processing on Posidonius and Messier A&B to try to bring some life into them. I also pointed the ‘scope at Jupiter which looked quite spectacular in the moments of good seeing.

I haven’t tried the colour filter wheel with the DMK yet, so unfortunately, Jove is in B&W only. I also noticed that although the ‘scope was collimated for visual use, when I checked a defocused star on the Notebook computer using the DMK, it was slightly out of collimation? Some work to be done yet in investigating this.

Cheers

Dennis

I love the second one (Messier A&B ) especially Dennis !
A very interesting image.

Lovely work on all three.
I know what you mean about getting out of practice easily.
Can't wait to get back into it too.

Nicely done Dennis.

I'm looking forward to giving Jupiter a bit of a shove now that it is getting up above the tree line at a respectable hour.

Thanks guys. The Mewlon 180 is such a sweet “grab and go” scope compared to the weight and size of the C9.25 that I tend to favour it for a quick set up these days. Also, there is no corrector plate to dew up.

At the risk of sounding a bit like a spoilt brat, there is a major down side to having multiple ‘scopes and several sensors.
  • Should I image Lunar, Planetary, Wide Field or DSO?
  • Do I use the Vixen 4”, C9.25, M180 or WO 80?
  • Should I attach the ST7, DMK or DSLR?
A case of being a Jack of all trades and master of none!

Cheers

Dennis

Lovely images Dennis. It sound like you have a bit of a dilemma as to which camera and which scope.

Cheers

Maybe you should build yourself an observatory where the pool is Dennis. If you made it big enough you would have room to have a custom setup for each situation. Then you could run them all at the same time
