Rho Ophiuchi in 135mm (3 x firsts)

This represents a few firsts for me. First time used my HEq5 after belt modding it (cut my RMS error by almost 50%). First time imaged this target - used Samyang 135mm at F2.4. First time I didn't use a LP filter (I realized my east to Zenith targets sit in bortle 4!). This is 107 x 240sec RGB using ASI 533 MC pro with Svbony UV/IR (about 7 hours). I wasn't happy with the lack of Red in the image so I added 44 x 240 sec Ha (zwo 7nm) (about 3 hours). Processed in Pixinsight and Photoshop.

Excellent work. I love the aperture diffraction spikes as well. Looks like you've got a very sharp version of that lens.
What did you use for autofocus? Or was it all manual?

It looks wonderful Paul
I've been itching to dig out a 135 for a similar job, when we eventually get to see the night sky

Best

thanks JA - the 135 has a special place in my set up - but your right - need an excuse to drag it out as the FOV requires large targets.

Thanks Adam - yeah I know the Quality Control on these can sometimes mean they are not as sharp as others - I got lucky I guess. This is manual focus - using a B Mask at first run only - no intermediate check.

Thanks Ryan - I cant think of a region that has so much colour and dust in contrast like that TBH

Thanks Dave! I find the ASI AIR Pro dithers pretty good to keep most of it in the FOV so only have to crop edges.

A superb Rho Paul. I think this is a good focal length for this object as its really quite broad.

I have that lens as well and yet to use it. I think that is a good use of it. This and the Orion complex.

Greg.

That’s an excellent result Paul. Scanning through the image shows a nice flat field with great colours

Thanks Greg - yes I do remember you mentioned having the same lens. The other good use is the super nova remnants regions

Thanks Rodney - I stopped the lens to 2.4 F ratio and I find it gives the best field.
