What work do you do?

Here's a good question, where the answers can only get you to know your fellow forum members better. What work are you involved in, from the roof tiler to the neurosurgeon and everything in between.

I'll go first, to get the ball rolling, I work in IT (as do quite a few others on the forum), I do some web designing and I also do a little cyber monitoring and database maintenance. All pretty boring I'm afraid

What about you?

I work in IT as well, as a team leader for Ericsson, working on the Hutchison 3G account. I started as a software developer (C, C++, Oracle DB programming) but don't get to do much development these days, except on IIS (when I can't push it to Terry

) and other websites I try to develop on the side.

I have a wife, 3 kids, and my hobbies are Astronomy, Karate and Fitness - when i'm not spending time with my wife and kids

IT (software development). These days all web based applications and services. B2B & stuff. Most of my time is analysis, project leading, senior programming, managing type stuff these days, I often miss the coding though.

IT (system administration). UNIX/Linux operating systems, email and network/system security.
Right now looking for work - and waiting for the rain to stop, 70mm in the last 2 days!

Hmm, I see a connection between high-earning IT professionals and fancy astro gear...

I'm just a humble superannuation admin guy, although I do work for IBM, so hopefully their share plans may pay for some new gear over the years.

If Ron will trade web services for astro gear, maybe I could trade super info. Only problem is that you'd fall asleep before you gave me anything!

I work in telephone PABX installation & maintenance. There is a some overlap in to IT areas (particularly IP & messaging) so I do a small amount of IT stuff as well. It's an interesting occupation, ever changing, little in the way of standardisation and constant learning as systems evolve.

I used to work in one of the coal-fired Greenhouse production plants here in the Latrobe Valley until a Mosquito borne virus nobbled me 5 years ago. Now I send the wife out hunting and gathering while I look after the kids.

I am the chief cook and bottle washer for Sumitomo Chemical Australia Pty Ltd...most would argue correctly that I don't do any real work. I do make the coffee each morning I am in the office and deliver most faxes (mostly)...

To keep with the established "theme" I am our head IT guy too...of course we contract out any actual work but I do tell people to restart/reboot their computers first (it saves our contractors a little time and us a little moneyand proves that I am trainable).

I have 2 boys and a lovely wife who respectively enjoy and tolerate this hobby.

farming.. digging holes and breaking / fixing things this week so far

superviser did leave the handbrake off on his car today and it moved a small building when it eventually
stopped so my minor little stuff going wrong just dosn't count anymore

I had 17 years with Telstra, ended up as a tech specialist working on Ericsson AXE family processor controlled exchanges (many of my ex-workmates ended up with Ericsson either as contractors or staff - you may know some of them Mike).

I then had my own PC business for a while, have worked as a tech in other areas of the electronics industry, have done a stint in sales (electronics consumer equipment) ....

Now I'm a contract killer - I kill people for a living.

Nah ... just kidding!

Of course ..... if I DID actually kill people for a living, and I told you all - well, I'd have to kill you to keep the secret, wouldn't I?
