They cant make it worst than the RAAF 100th anniversary show in Canberra which was a political recruitment drive and mostly showcased the private aircraft our PM uses as his personal taxi service and doesn’t pay for. Though our pollies present bills to people rescued by our our navy and coastguard. ;p
Would love to be able to get over to this event, but well.. enjoy it guys

COVID killed Avalon 2021 which was to be the main stage for the RAAF 100th Anniversary. So many International aircraft were going to fly in for this event. I also read that Warbirds over Wanaka has been cancelled for 2022.

Is it an SM when its on a boat? Or it this the modern equivalent of chucking dynamite in a pond to go fishing?

SM stands for 'Standard Missile', the number two is the variant...

It is a surface to air missile, fitted to RAN ships... it has a range of approx 170km.

Initial target indication is done by the ship then, the missile uses semi-active radar homing and has a blast-fragment warhead with a radar and contact fuse. Ie: can detonate on impact or by proximity...

They are a fairly sophisticated weapon & generally cost significantly less than the aircraft they are targetting...

True, but the fly in the ointment is that you have to detect and track the aircraft before you can successfully engage it, hence the emphasis on stealth and stand-off air-to-surface weapons.
