SM stands for 'Standard Missile', the number two is the variant...
It is a surface to air missile, fitted to RAN ships... it has a range of approx 170km.
Initial target indication is done by the ship then, the missile uses semi-active radar homing and has a blast-fragment warhead with a radar and contact fuse. Ie: can detonate on impact or by proximity...
They are a fairly sophisticated weapon & generally cost significantly less than the aircraft they are targetting...
