I wanted to add more data to this one before calling it done, but I think our recent weather won't let me add anything else for the foreseeable future..

Anyhow.. attached is an image of NGC2835 at 30% of full size, but full frame and heavily compressed; better one here:

5hrs of total exposure with a GSO RC14 @ f/8 + ASI2600MC OSC camera + EQ8. Processed with APP.

How’s the backlash on your EQ8 as I have a new EQ8-R pro arriving in June ( so far most folk say it’s pretty tame and doesn’t cause to much of an issue. I’m assuming you have the older version ? )

Thanks Peter. It is a beaut galaxy, albeit quite faint from the 'burbs.

The EQ8 has been a very good mount for me.
Backlash is significant in my example on the DEC axis & virtually non existent in RA.
Its manageable though with a slight imbalance in DEC.

I do have the older version; in fact I think it came out with the first shipment of these mounts when they were released.

I use an OAG when imaging & with an ASI290 guidecam I'm sampling at about 0.2"/pixel on my RC14. So far it has behaved very well. Attached is a guide graph from last night, Typically, on nights of average seeing, I get about 0.3-0.5" RMS guiding.

Your guiding numbers align with pretty much what most folk achieve straight out of the box with both the EQ8 and EQ8-R
My existing EQ6-R carrying 15kg use to guide around 0.70 to 0.80 on most nights over the past 3 years, then a couple of months ago I re orientated my Newt with camera facing down , adjusted both worm gears and adjusted drive belts to minimise backlash , re balanced and it now guides between 0.60 to 0.70
If my new EQ8-R guides 0.50 or lower out of the box then I’ll be stoked as I know I could spend some time to improve it. It will be carrying a 10” f5 CF newt , so just less than 20kg.
Only another 3 months to wait for it ......
