Hitch Hikers on the Radio

All next week on ABC Radio, at 4pm, they will be playing all 6 episodes of the latest of the Hitch Hikers radio play. It is The Resturant at the End of the Universe this time.
Hope this will encourage Aunty to replay the TV series.

I'm not sure about the new movie. I've seen the promos and I'm not impressed. I thinks it a little bit too outlandish. The original appeal of the series was the quite obvious parralles to modern day life with the beauracracy and corporate activities and marketing that are daily foisted upon us. Thats what really made me laugh. I hope the new versions haven't lost this original message and done justice to Douglas Adam's work.

By the way has anyone read his biography, I saw it the other day here at a local bookshop. Seems like a good read. I believe that one of his other claims to fame is that he played Guitar for a PINK Floyd concert back in the seventies. No doubt this fuelled his inspiration for the fictional Disaster Area Band.

Anyway we shall all keep open minds when viewing these latest versions and if they help to introduce this material to a younger audience more the better. My 13yo son has just recently poured over the books and enjoyed them immensely.

Happy reading and viewing

The Movie shows on SBS and ABC both gave very good reviews on the movie version.
One day, I'll head off to the big smoke to see it for myself.

saw the movie this week, fantastic.

suggest you read Douglas Adams forward to the omnibus edition, as with all things guide related contradictions abound.

particularly enjoyed the rescue mission

l have to agree Brendan, great movie it brought back little pieces l had forgotten about the series, the producers actually had the idea for the movie in the 80's but made Ghostbusters instead.
