Firewire cable?

Hi all

I've seen Bird's nice, thin, long white firewire cable, and I want to know where to get them from. Anthony - you mentioned something about a Mac shop?

I went to Jaycar today, they only had a thick black one - seemed a little better than the thick silver one i've got now, but not ideal.

He reckoned that the thin ones wouldn't carry the power. I need a 6-pin to 6-pin, so I can use it from the powered hub to the DMK21AF04.

Anyone seen any around? Dick smith had nothing - only the 4-pin to 6-pin.

The one I use Mike is a thick one too. I got mine from Office Works, works fine but it's just chunky.
I don't mind it though, but if I can find a thin one I'll consider changing it.

Looks like 1.8m is the longest Apple thin firewire cable they have at that site?

That's still 6 foot long. How long you need?

I'd prefer 3m, but 1.8m will be better than what I've got (shorter and thicker).

Know what you mean Mike. I've been looking for one 3 meters or longer for a while now but with no luck. Might have to bite the bullet and get the 1.8 one.

I've bought about $5,000 gear from Auspcmarkets - they are good guys! As Dennis said they have what you want, look under cables -> firewire...

Yes – Aus PC-Market Online eStore seem highly automated and efficient. I placed an order yesterday and received an:

E-mail saying that my order has been successfully placed.
E-mail saying that my order has been picked and is being packed.
E-mail saying my order has been despatched along with the courier details.

All in the space of 56 minutes!

Then, this was followed up with a 4th e-mail some 12 hours later, with a courier consignment note number and tracking details.

Good prices too.

To add closure to this discussion (cause I forgot to when I bought it), I found a 2m thin white firewire cable from the local apple shop. It was only $35 I think and it's heaps better than what I was using before.

Mike - Belkin does a 14 foot (4.3m) 6-6 pin for 400mbps FireWire.

You can't go that long for 800mbps.

You can't go wrong with Belkin cable - it's arguably the best quality there is. It's sheathed in a silicone that slithers and does not get all crossed up like cheap plastic cable does.
