Here on the shores of Moreton Bay, we have not seen any sky for months. And we’ve enjoyed rain and even hail.

Yesterday was no different up until about sunset. A good blast of hail and electrical storm right up to then. But lo and behold, it was gone. All of it. And we had clear skies, no wind, humidity dropping and temps falling to high teens. And there it stayed all-bleedin’-night. I actually managed to get some photons with my new all-ZWO rig. And they’re very satisfactory.

Woohoo. I’ve broken my drought!!

Down south in NSW it’s been so long since we’ve had a decent clear night I’ve forgotten how to image
Monday night is looking like a small window but I’m not too getting excited. The weather has been very monsoonal like since October, mostly cloudy with heavy rain at times

Yeah I’ve mostly written off this year and a good chunk of summer into ne t year.
All good, plenty of other things to do

Wife's 40th party yesterday. By 3am still outside talking with friends, saw Orion for the first time in many many weeks, plus the lovely line up of planets and Luna.

Tonight may be clear enough to actually use the new rig. That'd be nice.

Yeap. I was up as well around 12:00 and it was clear in Sydney too. Lot of twinkling though.

Yes -- but with caveats.

These are both "first light" images so getting-to-know-you images. The M42 is just a heap of 30x5 minute subs. Nothing fancy. Same with the Gabriella Mistral Neb shots of 50x5 minutes.

Both are taken through a Baader Ha 35 nm filter - another "first light" effort just to see how wide 35nm really is compared with the usual 5nm of most Ha filters. So M42 is pretty blown out.

Gabriella is too, although not quite so badly.

The CCD is the ZWO1600MM via a 200mm GSO newt guided via a 60mm scope and a ZWO120mm guide cam. The FW is ZWO as is the focuser and the whole thing run through a sexy ASiair Plus and the whole thing run off a 50 AH battery which ran the whole thing for about 8 hours imaging time. Ran the battery right down though so I'm charging up a 140AH deep cycle battery ready for the next outing.

SO far, I'm happy with this first showing of what this rig can achieve - weather permitting. All I have to do now is wait, and wait some more.

I never realised APOD had stooped to the level of cr ap. I might be in the running after all.


Actually, having looked at a few APODs recently, you never know.
