Anzac Day Dawn Ceremony

I'm finally going to attend the Anzac Day dawn ceremony at the Australian War Memorial here in Canberra tomorrow morning.

I've not had an opportunity since I moved here in late 2004, what with work etc

In fact, I've not attended a dawn ceremony anywhere. So I'm quite excited about it.

Anyone else attending a dawn ceremony in your part of the world?

After 16 years in the Royal Australian Army, I think I am qualified enough to say that, IMHO, ANZAC day now goes well beyond just Australia and New Zealand. It reminds us of the true human cost of war and although politicians and religious extremists may monger the wars, it is the soldiers and the people who bravely and gallantly fight, suffer and die for their cause.

I salute the ANZACs and anyone with the fortitude to serve their country for freedom from oppression and what they believe in their hearts is right. Even the enemy!

Remember, they have kids and husbands and wives too. They don't want to be in a trench with a gun or sword anymore than you would.

Think about it.

Lest we forget.

Jacob's Cub Scout group is marching tomorrow at Gosford, so if it's not raining we'll be there cheering them on!

Hi Matt, it a very moving ceremony, I've been to a few you will enjoy it.
I always have a thought for my grandfather on my fathers side in Italy who fought in the Italian Resistance, captured and escaped twice and the stories he told me was the stuff that movies are made of.

Cheers

Actually Matt, my wife mentioned to me that she would like to attend the dawn service tomorrow, it will be our first time, that is probably a bit sad, but i am looking forward to it anyway.
