Has anyone seen the 1980's movie 'Final Countdown' with Martin Sheen and Kirk Douglas?

In the movie Star Trek First Contact the Enterprise follows the Borg back in time to Earth 21st Centuary when First Contact occurred with the Vulcans. Zefram Cochrane inaugural flight. Now in this time line Geordi and Riker accompany Cochrane on his flight ... so wouldn't history record this. So when the Enterprise and crew return to their time I would expect Picard and Riker to be dragged before the Federation and asked "What is it about the Prime Directive you don't understand."

Imagine if U went back 20 years, to exactly the same spot. However, that spot is not on Earth, it is only the same spot relative to the Sun or The Milky Way Galaxy or the center of the universe. I don't think that would end well.

I think I read somewhere a physicist calculated that to go forward in time hundred of years one could sling shot around a black hole using the energy of a nuclear explosion and get close to the speed of light. Maybe apocryphal.

Going back however was not possible. I think because you would have turned into a smear of slime.

The trilogy of books by Australian author John Birmingham , Weapons of Choice have an international fleet going back in time to WW2.1. A bit of pulp but a good read and lot of interesting concepts for alternative history . I can see where the idea started.
