The Black Beast of Argh

As a Monty Python fan, I can't un see the beast from the Holy Grail movie here amongst the crazy mix of pockmarked bubbles & gases in the Small Magellenic Cloud!

It is of course NGC 292 & friends, in Ha & O3, shot under a full moon while testing my ridiculously expensive new Tak TOA-35 0.7 reducer, which finally arrived from Japan, after 3-4 months patiently waiting.

I'll have another go at this when the moon wanes and I get my focuser issues sorted out.

When I screwed on the new reducer I couldn't bring it to focus with my Tak CAA/rotator in place, so I'm having a shorter end cap adapter made by to suit by Stefan Buda.

The stars are almost round in all the corners first time out too, so a small spacing tweak to fine tune that, and I'll finally have the perfect dream scope I thought I was purchasing a year ago!

Only 5 hrs data, but here it is on ASTROBIN anyway.

Mony Python reference - love it.
Regions of nebulosity seem to be like cosmic Rorschach tests.

Very nice image too of course!

Nice rather corpuscular shot Andy

Assuming you haven't altered it and from the full res version on AB, the amount of star distortion visible across the image is pretty minimal ...I recon that amount could just be a function of the angle of the camera and a little flex and could change again depending on where you are pointing in the sky..?

Mike

Very nice Andy. The reducer is looking good especially for a first outing 👍

Thanks Pete, as a parent of three now teen lads, it's a joy to hear them quoting Monty Python now - "No-one expects the Spanish Inquisition!" or 'Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam..." Must rewatch The Holy Grail next family movie night - just have to FF Sir Lancelot's encounter with the naughty bits

Corpuscular, love it!

It's not quite the full field there Mike, I slightly rotated the focusser between filters, so had to crop off the corners on the repro - but there was a teeny bit of distortion that less spacing should clear up.

Thanks Matthew, I reached out first to a few users in the USA who gave it the thumbs up prior to shelling out the big bucks. You could buy a very decent small scope for what this thing set me back!

... or a cluster of bomb craters and debris. But maybe that's just the line of work I'm in.

Fantastic image!

Very nice image. I like the colour balance (A little more restrained than usual?)

Thanks Greg, surprised myself considering the limited data set.
