Crayford focusers for LX90

Is there anyone out there who has grafted one of the various Crayford focusers on their LX90? Main problem, of course, being clearance through the fork at zenith.

Yes, Meade has a zero image shift option but I would prefer something less complicated.

Mark.

How less complicated are you looking for. JMI have a manual one here, the NGF which has an SCT model

G'day there Paul. Thanks for the reply. That's one that I was considering but while it will fit the Meade 8 inch SCT OTA, there's nothing anywhere to say it will suit the fork-mounted LX90.If EQ mounted, no problemo! Could be big trouble at or near zenith with the fork though.Mark.

Starizona make a nice 10:1 focusser for the LX90, it's not a crayford but a replacement for the standard focusser (it's on my wish list). I don't think you'll find anything that will clear the forks on the LX90 in a crayford.

If you read the ad you'll see that they're only offering the adapter at that price, not the full focusser.

Hmmm... Starting to look like "Mission Impossible".

Maybe I'll give the Peterson Kit a look.

Thanks for the responses fellas.

MarkN, looks like your in the same boat as me. I think the best bet is either a fine focus knob upgrade or better yet the the Feathertouch microfocuser upgrade. I have yet to find a Crayford option that can be used without issues of hitting the fork arms at zenith.

Fahim

G'day Fahim,

Yes, I've seen those items advertised. Don't think I want to spend that much on trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, if you know what I mean.

$400 for the 1209 unit is a bit too much loot for me. Do you have plans in this regard?

Mark

If there was a local dealer for the Feathertouch, I would have it in my hands now. Its the best non-motor option. The next best would have to be the Petersons upgrade. For motorised options I would look at the JMI motor focuser for the primary mirrror (has a good braking system) and there is the Meade 1206. The JMI and the Meade both can be controlled by the Autostar if you have the APM 909 module, though this is a bit finicky. However this also provide Computer controlled focusing via the Autostar PC connection.

I might go Crayford eventually when i setup a permanent pier with wedge on it. This still will not be good for imaging near the pole but u could get most of the sky this way. However I hope to be adding a 80mm piggy back widefield DSO work, and use the 8" as the guide scope.

Here is a question for the experts out there, why can we not have an option for a Crayford to be added after the Diagonal?

Regards
